NATIONAL EHR SUMMIT OVERVIEW

Our nation's healthcare system is undergoing a significant transformation to improve quality, safety, and efficiency. With the enactment of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) in 2009, the federal government made a $19 billion investment in health information technology to support this transformation, and authorized new federal programs directed to states and regions to achieve the goal of "meaningful use" of certified electronic health records (EHRs). Recently, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), along with the Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT (ONC), released regulations that will direct the implementation of "meaningful use" and the certification of EHRs. These regulations will provide the conditions upon which HIT systems will need to be developed and built.

During this conference, participants will learn about policies and trends that will impact their products, will receive recommendations about how to react, and hear alternative strategies being employed across the field and their effectiveness. Sessions will be focused on the following key matters:

  • Navigating the Medicare and Medicaid incentive program
  • Understanding the EHR certification process
  • Exploring the EHR vendor marketplace
  • Looking at current EHR adoption rates and trends across the U.S.
  • Investigating best practices in EHR operations and the future of EHRs
  • Financing EHR acquisitions and EHR return on investment
  • Organizing and implementing an EHR acquisition process
  • Breaking through the barriers to successful EHR implementation
  • Understanding legal and business issues in negotiating an EHR acquisition and operations agreement
  • Analyzing EMR/EHR implementations worldwide

Through a combination of carefully selected keynote presentations, small workshops, and networking sessions, participants will significantly expand their knowledge base and build a network to support their work in the areas of "meaningful use," ARRA stimulus funding, system certification, and health IT and privacy policies.
